JIGAWA STATE PASSES IMPACT SURVEY

Jigawa State has passed the recently concluded impact survey conducted in three (3) LGAs of the state: Babura, Miga and Yankwashi LGAs. Generally, for this survey, a Trachomatous inflammation (Follicullar) – usually referred to as TF – of less than 5% implies a pass mark (among other criteria). Babura LGA recorded a TF prevalence of 1.15, while Miga and Yankwashi LGAs had 1.25 and 3.15 respectively. Given these results, the state is to proceed to surveillance stage, which lasts for two (2) years. CBM/HANDS is the supporting partner in Jigawa State.

A training curriculum for snakebite envenoming in Nigeria has been created. The draft of this document was reviewed and finalized in Kaduna State this week by several snakebite experts  in Nigeria including but not limited to Professors, medical doctors and pharmacists. The curriculum has been made to be highly technical and detailed, specifying the intricacies of snakebite envenoming under different circumstances. However, it was discovered that there is a need to create a simpler document for primary health care workers. This activity was sponsored by the World Health Organization (WHO).

OTHER ONGOING ACTIVITIES:

Mass administration of Medicines for the treatment of Onchocerciasis/Lymphatic Filariasis is still going on in several states of the country including Gombe State (supported by AMEN Health Care Foundation) and Akwa Ibom State (supported by Hellen Keller International). Similarly, MITOSATH is supervising same activity in Ondo State (image above).

UPDATE

Microplanning meeting with ward focal, education stakeholders and MOH across 13 LGAs of Oyo State took place this week in preparation for the 2nd round School based deworming being supported by Evidence Action.
