At this meeting, the Enugu State Commissioner for Health presented a keynote address in which he expressed his delight in the choice of Enugu State as host of the 7th National Review Meeting. He re-affirmed the State Government’s commitment to continued support for NTD activities in the State.

In addition, the meeting set out to assess and review the activities conducted by the States in 2018; review the extent of implementation of recommendations from the last National and Zonal review meetings; and utilize the data generated from 2018 and previous years implementation to derive projections for 2019.

During the meeting, there were presentations and discussions on update on 2018 NTD activities, challenges and way forward; state NTD program status (mapping, MAM and assessment) for all geopolitical zones; surveillance for PC and CM NTDS; supply chain management, handling of medicines, issues, challenges and way forward, among others.

Importantly, the following resolutions were arrived at during the meeting: even though the snapshot document is a useful tool that helps track treatments and program performance, subsequently, information from the JRSM should be used for the calculation of coverages; the national program with support from RTI/ENVISION should urgently convene a meeting (before the end of the first quarter of 2019) to finalize integrated assessment guidelines and the product disseminated among stakeholders; reverse logistics should be embedded into the treatment data/medicines retrieval process while maintaining the line of retrieval through the supply chain team, among others.

Also, during this meeting, the FMOH with support from Seventeen Plus Foundation introduced a new initiative to the NTD National Review Meeting – the presentation of awards to deserving states and partners. The table below shows the awards given and their recipients:
